5 Tips for Staging Your Home Before Showing

Spring is the perfect time to put your home on the market. Not only is it more convenient for buyers, but it is also less stressful for you when there are more buyers than sellers. What is one of the main things to consider when selling? Staging your home. Perceived value is very important for your sale and according to Custom Home Staging & Design, “staged homes sell for about 6% more on average.” Here are 5 tips on staging your home before showing.

Participate in Spring Cleaning

You don’t have to wait for spring to do all the cleaning, but just in case you did, join in with the rest of the crowd. Get rid of anything that classifies as clutter before doing anything else. Once you have done that, start utilizing the storage your home already offers – like cabinets, closets, and drawers. Now you can give your home the deep clean it needs to be considered staged before showing. Mops, vacuums, and wet wipes are your best friends today.

Get Strategic

After giving the house a good scrubbing, it’s time get strategic. You’re going to want to focus on staging the most compelling rooms of your home. We recommend the living room, master bedroom, and kitchen. All three represent what people think of most when they think of home – comfort and food. Do you have carpet or hardwood? These are things that you’ll need to plan for while staging. Maybe it’s time to make a change.

Redesign Your Home

Now that you know where to stage, you can start planning a slight redesign. You don’t need to change things completely but you should imagine what a potential buyer might want to see. Take some furniture out to add space or rent a couple pieces to make your home look more contemporary. Maybe even move that spare mirror into the living room so they can physically see themselves in your space.

Personalize It For Them

Once the buyer can see themselves in your space, they will think it has been personalized for them. That’s why it’s important to store personal effects like family photos or even sports memorabilia. This will give the buyer more of a blank canvas for viewing. The last thing you want is for them to be constantly reminded that this is not their home.

Remember Curb Appeal

The outside of your home’s look is just as important the inside. You wouldn’t want your over-grown lawn and broken porch swing to scare away potential buyers before they even get into the front door.
